"Unmake the wild light"

65daysofstatic's Joe Shrewsbury: "There was no possible way we could have done 'Wild Light' at any other time in our narrative. It’s only because we’ve gone through certain things together. I think those sort of ephemeral, intangible parts of the process are actually the key ones, and they are very hard to articulate."

"That record, from start to finish, was an absolute joy to be a part of... We didn’t talk about what we were doing, we just had this excitement that it was coming together."

65daysofstatic's Wild Light

65daysofstatic's Paul Wolinski: "What we felt like we caught in those songs was a simplicity and directness that wasn’t in any of the previous records, which is really what we were going for. We wanted to write a relatively stripped down record, for 65daysofstatic at least, and I think it is... I hope it’s more focused without losing its intensity. Our previous instinct would be to fill any space with noise or more programming but we didn’t, we managed to hold back this time..."

Paul Wolinski: "The music is a way to explain all the stuff there aren't any words for... We don't want to be avant-garde or experimental - we've always tried to make music as accessible as possible. It might not come across like that, with strange time signatures and being quite noisy, but nevertheless our aim has never been to exclude, but include."

"Prisms"

"'Prisms' is the outcome of 65daysofstatic smashing itself into a million pieces and reassembling itself in the dark. We tried to write sad dance music to be danced to at the end of the world, a possibility that seems increasingly likely."

"Sleepwalk City"

65daysofstatic's Paul Wolinski: "It was all loosely tied together and inspired by something called the Imagist manifesto, but it can probably be more accurately described as the noise equivalent of screaming into the abyss. We built an audiovisual installation at the Millennium Galleries that featured sixteen speakers, a massive P.A., and big, glitchy visuals. It ran on a loop throughout the day, creating a cloud of noise and drones in the room that you could walk through, or that sometimes swirled around you. The audio itself was a thirty minute version of a song called ‘Sleepwalk City’...."

"There’s a lot of programming and electronics on the new record, but it’s less obviously dance-based."

"I don’t think 'Wild Light' will shock people.... We just worked really hard to try and build accurate representations of those noises/shapes in our heads, put them together, and made an album. We’re really proud of it anyway."
